Addressing one another in PSALMS and HYMNS and SPIRITUAL SONGS, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

EPHESIANS 5:19-20

WORSHIP

The heartbeat of our Sunday morning expressions are an overflow of our weekly prayer and worship sets. Often our times of musical worship vary in expression and format, the goal is the same: to glorify Jesus and to see His Kingdom come as we are led by Him.

Our model is taken from Ephesians 5:19, “Addressing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”

  • Psalms: To strike a musical instrument. (Excellence/ musicianship)

  • Hymns: A written song of praise. (Prepared with songs of praise and worship)

  • Spiritual Songs: When the human sprit and soul is yielded as God’s instrument. (Spontaneous song and prayer as the Lord         lead)

In Scripture, there are seven Hebrew words that are translated in our Bible’s to say, “praise.”

  • YADAH (yaw-daw’): To revere or worship with lifted hands. To hold out the hands.  (Psalm 67:3)

  • HALAL (haw-lal’): To boast. To Rave. To shine. To celebrate. To be clamorously foolish. (Psalm 149:3)

  • ZAMAR (zaw-mar’) : To pluck the strings of an instrument, to sing, to praise;  joyful expressions of music with musica
instruments. (Psalm 144:9)

  • TOWDAH (to-daw’): An extension of the hand. Thanksgiving.A sacrifice of praise. Thanksgiving for things not yet received
along with what has been given. (Psalm 56:11-12)

  • BARAK (baw-rak’): To kneel. To bless God (as an act of adoration). To praise. To salute. To thank. (Psalm 72:11, 15)

  • TEHILLA (teh-hil-law): Laudation. A hymn. A song of praise. A spontaneous song of the heart. (Psalm 22:3)

  • SHABACH ( shaw-bakh’): To address in a loud tone. To shout. To commend, glory, and triumph. (Psalm 145:4)

Biblical praise and worship BEGINS in the heart, but must have an an EXPRESSION.

PRAYER

Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” (Matthew21:13) Prayer was the one thing the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to do. (Luke 11:1)

One of the earliest patterns of prayer and intersession we see in Scripture is found in Exodus 30:1-8. Aaron, the High Priest was called to burn incense every morning and night so that incense would continually be offered before the Lord.

  • Aaron is a type/foreshadow of Jesus who has an eternal priesthood and is in heaven making intercession for us. (Romans 8:34 & Hebrews 7:25)

  • Christ by His Spirit lives in new covenant believers, making us priests unto God. (Revelation 1:6 & 1 Peter 2:5, 9)

  • Incense is a type/foreshadow of prayer. (Revelation 5:8 & Revelation 8:4/Luke 1:10)

We are priests unto God because Christ lives in us and we are called to offer up prayers day and night before the Lord. Often our times of prayer and intercession vary in expression and format, the goal is the same: to glorify Jesus and to see His Kingdom come as we are led by Him.

Serve with Us

We are always wanting to add to our growing worship and prayer teams. Know that this commitment requires time & ability.

Honestly ask yourself these questions if you are interest, and talk to God about them.

  • What is my motivation in serving? Is it to glorify Jesus through the gifts He's given me, or is it somethings else?
  • Am I wanting to join this team, with these leaders, following the vision, mission, and purpose that God gave this House?
  • Do I have any preconceived ideas or desires about what this is going to be like for me? (If you do, we encourage you to hold those with open hands and a servant’s heart.)
  • (Musicians/Singers) Am I skilled enough? At Woodland, it is important to be musically skilled enough in your instrument to follow our worship model: Songs, Hymns, & Spiritual Songs. (As the Holy Spirit leads, we must be sensitive and skilled enough to follow and not distract from what God is doing.)

If you don’t feel that you are musically skilled enough (yet), please communicate that and we will do our best to work with you or connect you to someone who can help develop your gifts.
