He Restores | Daniel Sabo

God’s grace restores us, and His purpose prevails—even after our failures.

In John 20, we witness the resurrection of Jesus, a powerful declaration that death is defeated and hope is alive. The disciples are fearful, scattered, and uncertain. Peter, especially, is carrying the weight of deep regret—he had denied Jesus three times during His trial.

But in John 21, something incredible happens. Jesus appears to the disciples by the Sea of Galilee. After a miraculous catch of fish (echoing their first calling), Jesus takes Peter aside. And here’s where we see the beauty of restoration:

“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”

He asks not once, but three times—mirroring Peter’s three denials.

Each time, Peter responds, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” And each time, Jesus replies with a calling:

“Feed my lambs…Take care of my sheep…Feed my sheep.”

Jesus doesn’t just forgive Peter—He restores him to purpose. He reaffirms Peter’s calling, reminding him that his failure didn’t disqualify him. Jesus finishes what He starts.

Despite Peter’s mistakes, Jesus saw the future leader, the rock upon which He would build His church. His grace didn’t just cover Peter’s sin—it reignited his mission.

No matter what you’ve done, Jesus hasn’t given up on you. He’s not finished. Like Peter, your story can be redeemed and repurposed—for His glory.
